Join us as we launch the 2018 Festival with an evening of great reading performances, Q&A with authors and a chance to kick back with a drink on a Friday night and get into the literary frame of mind with crime, thrillers, mind-spinners and real-life policing.

The event, hosted by Jari Moate, includes performances from the following authors:

Sarah Hilary

Her debut, Someone Else’s Skin, won Theakstons Crime Novel of the Year 2015 and a host of other accolades. Her DI Marnie Rome series continues to command attention, with this year’s Come And Find Me – come and find out!

Christopher Wakling

His six acclaimed novels include What I Did and The Devil’s Mask. His latest is a heartfelt thriller in which a City banker steals £billions from his own bank, gives it untraceably to impoverished strangers, and flees, in Escape & Evasion.

Edson Burton

One of Bristol’s best loved writers, with work performed on Radio 4, in theatres and festivals, his ability to cut to the heart of culture is second to none, as in The Last Blues Song of a Lost Afronaut. We have no idea what he’ll do tonight, and we don’t mind!

G. D. Abson

Motherlandis a gripping crime thriller set in the dark heart of Putin’s Russia. Shortlisted for the Crime Writers Association Debut Dagger Award, there could be few more fascinating ways to gain an insight into that important and mysterious country.

Peter Chaplin

As a veteran of the Dog Section of Avon & Somerset Police, his tales and anecdotes from A Job With Bitewill take you on a thrilling, hilarious rollercoaster ride into crime-fighting in the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s in and around Bristol with Police dog Major.
